LUCERNE, Switzerland (CP) _ Doug Vandor of Dewittville, Que., won
a silver medal in the men's lightweight single event Saturday at
the Lucerne World Cup rowing competition.
Vandor finished with a time of seven minutes, 13.70 seconds.
Great Britain's Zac Purchase won gold in 7:08.38.
``I drew confidence from the heat and semi (raced earlier
Saturday),'' said Vandor. ``I've trained in the single for a year
and a half, but I'm still learning how to race in the single. I just
pretended it was a time trial, and that seemed to work well.''
Jeff Bujas of Grimsby, Ont., finished ninth overall.
In the women's lightweight double, Mara Jones of Aurora, Ont. and
Tracy Cameron of Shubenacadie, N.S., reached Sunday's final after
winning their semifinal in 7:01.81.
The men's lightweight double of Matt Jensen of Innerkip, Ont.,
and Liam Parsons of Thunder Bay, Ont., missed the chance to advance
to the A final in their event after a close fourth-place finish in
their semifinal.
The lightweight men's four of John Sasi of Vancouver, Mike Lewis
of Victoria, Terry McKall of Edmonton and Iain Brambell of Victoria
finished sixth in their semifinal.
