Canada beats Tunisia to earn gold medal at Anton Furlani International Cup

Terry Martin of Burlington, Ont., had 18 kills and four service aces to lead Canada's first team to a gold medal with a 25-18, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22 win over Tunisia, while Canada's second team took bronze at the Anton Furlani International Cup volleyball tournament Saturday.

Paul Duerden of London, Ont., added 17 kills and a service ace for Canada 1.

Hichem Kaabi lede Tunisia with 18 kills and a service ace.

``Fred (Winters) was out with a back injury and Terry Martin came through for us tonight despite not being with us for most of the summer and not knowing our systems that well,'' said Canadian head coach Gleen Hoag.

Canada 2 defeated Argentina 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 19-25, 15-8 in the bronze-medal match.

The second Canadian team is composed of athletes attending the Canadian volleyball training centre as well as members of the main team's extended roster.

Edmonton's Nicholas Cundy once again led the attack for the

Canadians with 17 kills and a stuff block.

Argentinian Captain Gustavo Scholtis and teammate Lucas Chavez both had 13 points in the losing effort.
