Fifth-seed Sania Mirza of India beat Sandra Kloesel of Germany on Thursday to move into the Sunfeast Open quarter-finals in this eastern Indian city.
Mirza won 7-5, 6-3, in front of the partisan crowd of about 2,000 and will meet Aravane Rezai of France in the next round.
``I expected a tough fight. Kloesel has a big return,'' Mirza said after her victory.
Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia and Alberta Brianti from Italy also moved into the quarter-finals after winning their second-round matches.
Kudryavtseva outplayed Hana Sromova from the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-0. Brianti was stretched to three sets by Angelique Widjaja of Indonesia 7-6 (9), 6-3, 6-3.
Iroda Tulyaganova from Uzbekistan beat Casey Dellacqua of Australia 6-3, 6-2 in another second-round match.
Top-seed Martina Hingis of Switzerland and unseeded Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand have already moved into the quarter-finals.
