Top-ranked Amelie Mauresmo won her China Open debut Thursday to set up a quarter-final matchup with fifth-seeded American Lindsay Davenport.
France's Mauresmo cruised past China's Sun Tiantian 6-3, 6-2 and Davenport eliminated China's Zheng Jie 6-2, 7-6 (4). Third-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova and No. 6 Russian Jelena Jankovic also won second-round matches in straight sets.
Former No. 1 Davenport has won her last nine matches against Mauresmo and 12 of 15 overall .
``It's a little funny and weird to know I've beaten her that many times in a row,'' Davenport said. ``She's obviously a great player, and now the No. 1 player in the world. I don't expect an easy match tomorrow; I'll need to play better than today.''
Petrova dominated qualifier Eleni Daniilidou of Greece 6-1, 6-2 to set up a match with Jankovic, a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Marion Bartoli of France.
