Maria Sharapova reached the quarter-finals for the 13th time in 14 tournaments this year, beating Eleni Daniilidou of Greece 7-5, 6-1 Thursday in the second round of the Generali Ladies.
Sharapova saved three break points in the first set, and then broke three times in the second.
``I have played so much tennis lately, that I felt a bit exhausted at the start of the match,'' Sharapova said. ``But I settled down well after the first set.''
Sharapova, who only failed to reach the quarter-finals at the French Open, will play Ana Ivanovic, who beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-2.
Ivanovic landed 27 winners and dominated with a strong forehand. Radwanska held serve only twice, and missed five break points.
Samantha Stosur also advanced, beating seventh-seeded Anna Chakvetadze 6-4, 6-4. Chakvetadze, who won the Kremlin Cup earlier this month, struggled with her serve and had five double faults. She allowed 12 break points and was broken three times.
Stosur will play defending champion Nadia Petrova in the quarter-finals.
Jelena Jankovic advanced after beating Elena Vesnina 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2, and will face fourth-seeded Nicole Vaidisova.
