Kristof Vliegen came back in the final set to beat seventh-ranked James Blake 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5) Wednesday in the second round of the Madrid Masters.
Blake, who had won his last two tournaments, led 3-1 in the final set but had 16 unforced errors and only 12 winners.
The loss snapped the American's 14-match winning streak and left him winless in three visits to the Madrid Masters.
Vliegen, a 24-year-old Belgian, had 26 of his 41 winners in the final set.
Robby Ginepri advanced after beating 12th-seeded Mario Ancic of Croatia 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5).
The 47th-ranked American had six aces and took advantage of the hard-hitting Croat's subpar first serve. Ginepri will face seventh-seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain on Thursday.
Ancic's loss means he cannot qualify for the season-ending Masters Cup.
Also, Fernando Gonzalez converted his only break point in the final set to beat Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-4.
The 10th-ranked Chilean, who lost to Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia in the BA-CA Tennis Trophy final last week, saved eight break points in the match to move into the last 16.
No. 13 Tommy Haas of Germany also won, beating Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia 6-3, 7-6 (6).
Later Wednesday, defending champion Rafael Nadal of Spain was scheduled to face American qualifier Mardy Fish and ninth-ranked Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus was to play 2004 champ Marat Safin of Russia.
