Clijsters expects to return to WTA Tour at home event in Hasselt

Kim Clijsters expects to return from a long injury layoff at her home tournament in Hasselt later this month.

Clijsters, who has been out with a wrist injury for two months, has resumed practising and plans to play in the Oct. 30-Nov. 5 Gaz de France tournament in northern Belgium.

``For the moment, my wrist gives me no trouble,'' she said on her website Thursday.

The sixth-ranked Belgian still hopes to qualify for the Nov. 7-12 season-ending WTA Tour Championship.

Clijsters wore a wrist brace for a month after falling on her surgically repaired wrist at a tournament in Montreal in August.

She was unable to defend her U.S. Open title and missed the Fed Cup final, which Belgium lost to Italy. Clijsters also missed most of the 2004 season because of her wrist.

The 23-year-old has dealt with assorted ankle, knee and back ailments and plans to retire in 2007.
