Volandri knocks out Moya in quarter finals of Romania Open

Italy's Filippo Volandri knocked out Spain's Carlos Moya 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals at the clay-court BCR Romania Open.

The fifth-seeded Volandri will face Florent Serra of France, who beat Germany's Florian Mayer 6-3, 7-6 (5).

Moya, the third-seeded 1998 French Open champion, crashed out of the tournament a day after his 500th win on the ATP Tour.

Jurgen Melzer of Austria defeated Spain's Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-4, 6-2 and will face off in the other semifinal against France's Paul-Henri Mathieu, who beat Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-1, 6-4.
