Canada lost 2-1 loss to France on Sunday in its opening match at the women's world team squash championship.
With the loss, Canada faces an uphill battle to advance to the playoff round.
Runa Reta of Ottawa lost the opening match to world No. 16 Isabelle Stohr 2-9, 9-7, 9-4, 9-3. Camille Serme then clinched France's win by defeating Vancouver's Melanie Jans 9-5, 9-5, 5-9, 0-9, 9-2. Canada got it's only victory after Winnipeg's Carolyn Russell defeated Renai Soraya in the third match 9-5, 9-0, 2-9, 6-9, 10-8.
The Canadians were seeded seventh and France 10th.
Canada and France are in pool B along with No. 2 Egypt and No. 15 Spain. With Egypt almost certain of taking the top spot in the pool, the winner of the Canada-France match would likely get the coveted second spot, and a trip to the playoff round.
Canada's next match is against Spain on Monday, followed by a showdown with Egypt on Tuesday.
