White stuns world No. 1 Shabana at British Open squash championships

Scotland's John White stunned world No. 1 Amr Shabana of Egypt 3-2 in the first round of the British Open squash championships on Friday.

Shabana was two points away from victory in the fourth game but White came back to win in a tiebreak and also took the deciding game for a 11-7, 10-11, 9-11, 11-10, 11-5 win.

``I had a game plan and stuck to it, which I haven't done for a long time,'' White said.

The 33-year-old Scot, a former world No. 1, used to train at the host University Sports Centre. White will play eighth-seeded Karim Darwish of Egypt in the second round.
