Canadians Graham Ryding and Shahir Razil were both knocked out.
Ryding was beaten by No. 6 Peter Nicol of England 11-4, 5-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-10 (2-0) while Razil dropped an 8-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7, 11-10 (4-2) decision to 14th seed Ollie Tuominen of Finland.
Second-ranked David Palmer of Australia won, beating Pakistan's 16-year-old Aamir Atlas Khan 11-6, 11-6, 11-3.
