Curt Johnson will step down as the Kansas City Wizards' general manager at the end of the season because a contract agreement couldn't be reached with the new owners.
Johnson, the general manager since November 1999, said Saturday that he had wanted a long-term deal. The team announced his impending departure on Friday. Johnson will remain as an adviser during the transition to a new GM.

League Soccer were sold to a six-person investment group led by
Cerner Corp. executives Neal Patterson and Cliff Illig.
The deal was announced Thursday, three days after the Overland
Park City Council voted to put a $75 million US soccer complex on
the November ballot.
The new owners, who will assume operations Friday, hope to have
the Wizards' stadium built in that suburban Kansas City complex.
