Brian Ching's bicycle-kick shot in the 86th minute gave Houston Dynamo a 1-0 win over D.C. United on Saturday night.
Brad Davis and Paul Dalglish assisted on the play, on which Ching flipped upside down and kicked the ball from 10 yards out.
The win, coupled with Real Salt Lake's 3-3 tie with Kansas City, clinched an MLS playoff spot for Houston (11-8-11).
Vancouver native Pat Onstad picked up the shutout, his fifth of the season.
Toronto natives and Canadian national team players Dwayne De Rosario and Adrian Serioux were in the starting lineup for Houston.
United (15-5-10) still clinched the MLS Supporter's Shield, emblematic of the league's best regular-season record and a place in next year's CONCACAF Champions Cup. D.C. United already had secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
