With the tie, Houston improves to 10-8-10, while Chivas moves to 9-7-12.
Chivas played without team captain Juan Francisco Palencia, who injured a knee Wednesday against Dallas. Houston was without midfielder Brian Mullan, who was suspended after getting two yellow cards in last week's game.
