CARSON, Calif. (AP) _ The Los Angeles Galaxy acquired forward Santino Quaranta from D.C. United on Tuesday for partial rights to a future player and a conditional 2008 draft pick.
Quaranta, 21, was expected to join the team for Wednesday night's game at Houston.
``We expect him to contribute immediately as we continue the process of improving this team,'' said Alexi Lalas, the Galaxy's president and general manager.
Quaranta, slowed by injuries in recent years, was the youngest selection in Major League Soccer when he was drafted at age 16 in 2001. He had five goals and one assist in 16 games as a rookie and was selected for the MLS all-star game.
He appeared in 18 games last year and was D.C. United's third-leading scorer with five goals and five assists.
