D.C. United's Troy Perkins was honoured as MLS Goalkeeper of the Year on Thursday after his first full season starting for the club.
Perkins led the league in wins (15), was selected to the all-star game, and had eight shutouts and a 1.13 goals-against average as United owned the best regular-season record in MLS.
``I'm a bit shocked by this announcement,'' Perkins said, ``but I'm really happy.''
New England's Matt Reis and Colorado's Joe Cannon were the other finalists for the award.
