Valencia captain David Albelda will be sidelined for two weeks after breaking a facial bone during Spain's 3-2 defeat against Northern Ireland.
Albelda, who was substituted in the 28th minute of Wednesday's European Championship qualifier in Belfast, will undergo surgery on Friday, the club said Thursday.
The midfielder is expected to miss Spanish league games against Atletico Madrid and Getafe, as well as its opening Champions League match versus Olympiakos in Athens next Tuesday.
Spain and Valencia midfielder Ruben Baraja isn't expected to recover from a muscle tear until November.
