Getafe handed Real Madrid its first loss of
the Spanish league season Saturday, using defender Alexis Ruano's
59th-minute header to prevail 1-0.
Ruano rose above Madrid defender Raul Bravo to score moments
after Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas had stopped a shot from
midfielder Manuel del Moral.
Madrid finished the match with 10 men after second-half
substitute Ronaldo was sent off in the 90th minute with his second
yellow card.
Madrid coach Fabio Capello started David Beckham and employed
Antonio Cassano in a five-man midfield behind Ruud van Nistelrooy as
the sole striker.
Most of the early pressure came from Getafe who created three
good chances in the first 15 minutes. Casillas punched away a
powerful right-footed shot by Francisco Casquero in the 36th.
In the second half, Capello replaced Cassano and Mahamadou Diarra
with Ronaldo and Raul Gonzalez.
With Madrid due to face Steaua Bucharest in the UEFA Champions
League on Tuesday and FC Barcelona next weekend, Fabio Cannavaro
rested his injured knee.
Barcelona has 13 points and leads the league over Valencia on
goal difference heading into Sunday's games.
Sevilla, which travels to play Barcelona on Sunday, is third with
12, while Real Madrid has 11. Getafe is eighth with 10.

Masters starting Monday, was among the crowd of 13,000 at Getafe's
Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Madrid with its only clear chance in the third minute of injury
time, hitting a right-footed shot across the goal.
Getafe almost scored a second in the 72nd minute when midfielder
Alberto Aguilar just missed a cross from defender Javier Paredes in
front of an open goal.
Across town in the Spanish capital, Atletico Madrid used goals by
Fernando Torres and Sergio Aguero to beat Recreativo.
Atletico appeared wearing shirts saying ``Keep your spirits up
Maxi'' _ a reference to teammate Maxi Rodriguez who tore a ligament
in his left knee in Wednesday's friendly between Argentina and Spain
and will miss six months.
He is scheduled to have surgery Monday.
Javi Guerrero gave Recreativo the lead in the 63rd, putting in
the rebound after goalkeeper Leo Franco block his initial penalty
attempt.
Torres equalized with a penalty nine minutes later, and Aguero's
goal in the 78th minute was given despite clearly punching the ball
past substitute goalkeeper Bertrand Laquait, who had replaced the
injured Javier Lopez Valljo in the 46th minute.
An injury to Bulgaria midfielder Martin Petrov in the 38th minute
further depleted Atletico coach Javier Aguirre's midfield.
