Barcelona beats Levski Sofia 0 2

Ludovic Giuly and Andres Iniesta scored Wednesday to lead FC Barcelona to a 2-0 win over Levski Sofia 2-0 in Group A of the Champions League.

Giuly scored in the fifth minute from inside the area, beating Levski goalkeeper Georgi Petkov.

In the 65th minute, Petkov blocked a powerful shot by Deco and Iniesta scored from the rebound.

The defending champions badly needed the victory to have a chance to advance to the next round. The Spanish team hosts Werder Bremen in its final group match and needs to win, while the Germans need only a draw to advance.

Ronaldinho had a perfect chance to score from a free kick just outside the penalty area in the eighth minute, but his shot flew over the bar.

Barcelona controlled the game, leaving Levski with only a few chances. Levski's forwards, kept at a safe distance from Barcelona's net, resorted to frequent far shots, but to no success.

Levski's best chance to score came in the fourth minute when Hristo Yovov beat three Barcelona defenders to reach Victor Valdes' right post, but he shot wide.

In the 77th minute, Ronaldinho ran through Levski's defense and passed to Eidur Gudjohnsen, but he missed the pass just in front of the goal line.

Chelsea lost to Werder Bremen 1-0 in the other group game but still qualified for the second round with 10 points. Bremen also has 10 points, while FC Barcelona has eight and Levski has zero.
