Paulo Jorge, Nuno Gomes, Simao Sabrosa and Giorgios Karagounis scored for Benfica to down Desportivo das Aves 4-1 in the Portuguese league on Sunday.
After Jorge scored in the 19th minute, Filipe Anunciacao equalized soon after with a shot between the knees of goalkeeper Quim Silva.
Gomes scored five minutes after halftime, and Sabrosa put away a penalty in the 64th because of a hand ball by William Modibo. Karagounis scored the fourth goal a minute from the end.
Benfica's second victory lifted it to the middle of the standings.
FC Porto remained the head of the standings despite not playing until Monday, against Braga.
If Porto loses, Sporting could join Porto on top by beating Leiria on Monday.
Naval was second after beating Beira Mar 2-1 on Friday.
In other matches it was Belenenses 0, Boavista 2; Academica 1, Nacional 3; and Maritimo 2, Amadora 1.
