Polish soccer federation president Michal Listkiewicz will resign next month.
Listkiewicz, who has headed the federation since June 1999, will step down on Oct. 27 during the organization's general assembly, spokesman Michal Kocieba said Monday.
Kocieba did not disclose the reasons for the decision, but there has been a string of match-fixing scandals in the first and second divisions of Poland's domestic league.
Prosecutors in the western city of Wroclaw have issued match-fixing and bribery charges to more than 30 people since opening an investigation last year.
Earlier this month, Polish sports minister Tomasz Lipiec said the organization will be investigated for possible breaches of the law and the organization's statute. He also threatened to suspend the federation's governing board.
Poland qualified for the 2002 and 2006 World Cups after a 16-year absence under Listkiewicz, although both tournaments ended disappointingly.
Listkiewicz brought in Leo Beenhakker of the Netherlands in July as the first foreigner to coach the national team.
Listkiewicz, a 53-year-old former international referee, officiated games at the 1990 and 1994 World Cups. His second four-year term in heading the federation was due to end in 2008.
