MEXICO CITY (AP) _ Salvador ``Taquito'' Cabanas scored four goals in the first half as Mexico City's Club America trounced Veracruz 5-1 to move into second place in Group 3 of the Mexican first division.
It was the Paraguayan's first goals since transferring to the Aguilas before the start of the season and gave him a share of the league scoring lead with Brazilian Kleber Boas of Necaxa, Argentine Bruno Marioni of Toluca and Mexico's Miguel Sabah of Cruz Azul.
In other games Sunday, it was UNAM 0, Toluca 0, and Tecos 2, Chiapas 3.
On Saturday, Cruz Azul won 3-2 at Chivas to remain the only team to have won all four games and stay atop Group 2. Elsewhere, it was San Luis 2, UANL 0; Queretaro 2, Santos 1; Monterrey 3, Atlante 0; Morelia 1, Atlas 1; and Necaxa 3, Pachuca 1.
Cabanas scored in spurts and had help from Matias Vuoso on three of his goals, putting America ahead with goals in the 12th and 17th minutes and then adding to the rout with tallies in 37th and 40th.
His first score came from a fortuitous bounce when Chilean Ricardo Rojas' shot glanced off the back of a defender and rolled right to Cabanas, who found the back of the net from close range.
Five minutes later, Fabian Pena fed Vuoso from well outside the area. Vuoso lifted the ball to Cabanas, who had little trouble besting Veracruz goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo.
Vuoso looped a pass to Claudio Lopez who sent a cross into the middle of the Veracruz area where Cabanas capitalized on sloppy defence. Two minutes later, Vuoso again fed Cabanas for No. 4.
Cabanas also assisted on the fifth, sending a ball to Lopez for his first of the season in the 42nd.
In other matches, Toluca's draw with Pumas marked the return to Estadio Olimpico by Marioni, who led Pumas the league title in 2004 before transferring to Toluca this year.
Elsewhere, Alejandro Corona scored in the final minute to lift the visiting ``Jaguares'' of Chiapas over Tecos.
Enrique Alcazar put Chiapas ahead 1-0 in the 38th minute and Oscar Rojas stretched the lead in the 46th. Emmanuel Luduena got the home team on the board in the 69th and an own-goal by Chiapas' Edoardo Isella made it 2-2 in the 87th, setting the stage for Corona's late heroics.
