GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) _ Bundesliga leader Schalke gave coach Mirko Slomka a new contract Thursday that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2008-09 season.
Slomka, 39, was promoted to head coach in January 2006, following Ralf Rangnick's departure. It was Slomka's first job as head coach in the Bundesliga.
Schalke has a three-point lead in the Bundesliga but has not won in four games. The club is seeking its first German championship in 49 years.
