Joachim Loew became the first coach in
German history to win his first four matches, leading his team over
Georgia 2-0 Saturday in a friendly.
Bastian Schweinsteiger scored in the 24th minute and Michael
Ballack in the 67th as the team ran its goal difference to 19-0
since Loew took over after the World Cup.
Loew rested many of his regulars and gave four rookies their
debut in the warmup for Wednesday's European Championship qualifying
match against Slovakia.
``Naturally the record is nice,'' Loew said. ``But we have to
allow less chances against Slovakia _ that is an entirely different
calibre of opponent.''
During the first half, Georgia threatened several times against a
shaky German defence, starting with Georgy Demetradze's third-minute
shot just outside the net.
The match swung on two second-half ejections, one for each team.
Afterward, Georgia didn't have a chance beyond an offside goal by
Demetradze, while Germany applied pressure and chased the third goal
until the final whistle.
Germany forward Lukas Podolski was ejected in the 49th minute for
kicking Zurab Khizanishvili in the shin, retaliating for a rough
tackle.
Khizanishvili was ejected 14 minutes later for kicking Germany
forward Mike Hanke from behind.
Schweinsteiger scored on a 24th-minute long-distance blast on a
side-footed pass by Ballack.
The Bayern Munich midfielder returned the favor in the 67th,
setting up the Germany captain, whose low left-footed shot flew
inside the left post.
Schweinsteiger has played a role in eight of 19 goals since Loew
took over.
``Georgia gave me a lot of chances, and since I can these days, I
took advantage,'' Schweinsteiger said.
Georgia plays a key European qualifying Group B match against
World Cup champion Italy on Wednesday.
