Marseille conceded a late penalty in a 1-1 tie against a short-handed Lens squad Sunday, leaving five-time defending champion Lyon five points atop the French First Division standings.
Mamadou Niang gave Marseille the lead in the 63rd when he converted a penalty after rounding goalkeeper Charles Itandje but being taken down hard by Gregory Vignal.
Vignal was sent off for the foul, requiring Lens to rally with a man disadvantage.
Aruna Dindane tied it on penalty in the 80th after Marseille's Lorik Cana was called for impeding Brazilian defender Hilton on a Lens free kick.
The result left Marseille in second place with 20 points from nine rounds. Lyon remained the only unbeaten team in the French league Saturday with its 2-1 win over Saint-Etienne.
Lens is seventh with 14 points.
In other action Sunday, ninth-placed Le Mans was held to a 0-0 draw at home by Nancy, which is third with 16 points.
On Saturday, it was: Bordeaux 1, Monaco 0; Nantes 0, Sochaux 2; Nice 3 Lorient 0; Paris Saint-Germain 4, Sedan 2; Rennes 3, Auxerre 1; Toulouse 3, Valenciennes 0; and Troyes 1 Lille 1.
