Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon will undergo knee surgery to fix a cartilage injury and is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.
The England international was hurt in training on Sept. 8 and missed the following day's 1-0 loss at Manchester United. He travelled with Tottenham to the Czech Republic for its UEFA Cup first-round match against Slavia Prague on Thursday, but didn't play after feeling pain in training one day earlier.
``We were taking a cautious approach with Aaron, but after training it was quite clear that he certainly wouldn't be able to play and now that the medics have reassessed his injury, he will have surgery as soon as possible,'' Tottenham manager Martin Jol said Friday.
Lennon is likely to be replaced on the wing by Jermaine Jenas, who scored in the 1-0 win over Slavia Prague.
``He's a special player and we'll miss him,'' Jenas said. ``Aaron has been in exceptional form since he came back from the World Cup.''
Tottenham hosts Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
