Tottenham seeks first away points with goalkeeper under scrutiny

Tottenham is after its first away points of the season at Aston Villa on Saturday, with visiting goalkeeper Paul Robinson under close scrutiny.

Robinson will be making his first appearance since his high-profile mistake contributed to England's 2-0 European Championship qualifying loss at Croatia. He missed Gary Neville's gentle back pass when the ball hit a clod of earth and rolled into the net for the second goal.

``He'll expect the fans to give him a little bit of stick about it,'' Aston Villa goalkeeper Stuart Taylor said. ``That goes with the territory. He's England's No. 1 and he's the best in the country, so he can't let this bother him too much.''

Taylor, a former England under-21 international, is expected to start in place of the injured Thomas Sorensen.

Tottenham coach Martin Jol said Robinson would cope with the criticism.

``If you judge him harshly, you could say it was a silly situation. But it was a freak moment and you can't let it stay on your mind all the time,'' Jol said.

Jol has injury worries over captain Ledley King, who pulled out of England's game with a knee injury, and striker Jermain Defoe, who injured a foot during the Croatia game. Winger Aaron Lennon is recovering from a knee operation.

Aston Villa also has injury concerns, with striker Luke Moore out until January after undergoing shoulder surgery and doubts over defender Olof Mellberg (knee) and midfielder Peter Whittingham (thigh).

New manager Martin O'Neill has kept Villa unbeaten in its seven games this season and won the three at home.

``It is great at the moment, being undefeated, and there is a lot of confidence going throughout the club,'' Villa defender Liam Ridgewell said. ``The new manager has installed that confidence in the players.''

In other Saturday matches, it's Wigan versus Manchester United (Rogers Sportsnet, 7:30 a.m. ET), Arsenal versus Watford (Rogers Sportsnet, 10 a.m. ET), Liverpool versus Blackburn, Manchester City versus Sheffield United, Middlesbrough versus Everton, Portsmouth versus West Ham, and Reading versus Chelsea (Rogers Sportsnet, 2:30 p.m. ET on tape delay).

On Sunday, Newcastle hosts Bolton (Fox Sports World Canada, 11 a.m. ET). On Monday, Charlton goes to London rival Fulham (Fox Sports World Canada, 3 p.m. ET).

Manchester United is top of the table with 16 points, the same as second-place Chelsea. Bolton is third with 14, followed by Portsmouth, Everton, Aston Villa and Reading with 13 points.

Arsenal is eighth with 11 points and has played one game fewer. It's recovered from a poor start and won its last three league games, and should collect another three points against last-place Watford (Rogers Sportsnet, 10 a.m. ET), which hasn't won yet this season.

Arsenal will be without winger Fredrik Ljungberg (calf), defender Emmanuel Eboue (knee) and attacking midfielder Julio Baptista (hamstring), who were injured on international duty.

Chelsea could be without defender Ashley Cole, who was forced to play the end of England's game with a leg injury because all the substitutes had been used. Midfielder Michael Ballack is still suspended.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has lost striker Dirk Kuyt, who sustained ligament damage while playing for the Netherlands and defender Daniel Agger, who broke his hand while playing for Denmark.

Benitez is still frustrated at Liverpool's 2-0 loss at Bolton on Sept. 30 which leaves the club 10th and without an away win.

``It's been frustrating not being with the players after Bolton because we need to work with them, but at least we've had time to analyze what went wrong and get a clear idea in our minds of what we need to do in the future,'' Benitez said.

``Games after an international break are always difficult, but we are at home this weekend in front of our supporters.''

Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel has a groin injury and is doubtful to play against his former club, so Jason Brown may make his first start. Blackburn has won its last four games in all competitions.

Cardiff, which has a five-point lead over Birmingham in the Football League Championship, has a tough game at Crystal Palace. Birmingham visits 11th-place Luton.
