Trinidad and Tobago striker Dwight
Yorke will join former Manchester United teammate Roy Keane at
English League Championship club Sunderland.
Sunderland paid Yorke's Australian club, Sydney FC 200,000 pounds
($420,000 Cdn) for the 34-year-old forward. Yorke has signed a
two-year contract.
Keane took over as Sunderland manager this week, three months
after he retired as a player. He played alongside Yorke at
Manchester United between 1998 and 2002, where the club won the
European Champions League, four league titles and an FA Cup.
Yorke joined Sydney FC in July 2005 and played 21 games in
Australia's A-League. He scored seven goals and helped the club win
the A-League's inaugural title.
Yorke also impressed during the World Cup as captain of Trinidad
and Tobago.
``Dwight Yorke has made an unbelievable contribution to Sydney FC
and Australian football and we wish him nothing but luck in his new
endeavours with Sunderland,'' Sydney FC Chairman Walter Bugno said.
Keane also signed Wigan midfielder Graham Kavanagh for 500,000
pounds ($1.05 million Cdn) Thursday.
