Everton midfielder Tim Cahill was named Tuesday in a strong Australian soccer squad for matches against Paraguay and Bahrain but headliners Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell were not available.
Strikers Viduka, Kewell and Josh Kennedy are the only members of Australia's World Cup squad not named for the friendly against Paraguay in Brisbane on Oct. 7 and the Asian Cup qualifier against Bahrain in Sydney on Oct. 11.
Viduka's wife is expecting a baby while Kewell and Kennedy were not considered because of injury.
Central Coast defender Tony Vidmar, Sydney FC's Alex Brosque and Adelaide United's Travis Dodd, who were not at the World Cup, have been drawn from Australia's A-League to bolster the 23-man squad.
Caretaker coach Graham Arnold will call on Melbourne Victory's Kevin Muscat and Newcastle's Jade North for the match against Bahrain to cover the expected retirements of Stan Lazaridis and Tony Popovic.
