Blackburn manager backs McCarthy

Benni McCarthy has scored only one league goal this season, but manager Mark Hughes is confident he'll produce more.

The South African moved from Porto to Blackburn this season on a 2.5 million-pound (C$5.3 million) transfer.

``It's early days for Benni,'' Hughes said. ``I feel the expectations are a little too high. He has come into a different league, we are only four games in and yet people are expecting him to have a huge impact.

``He'll have an impact at this level and very quickly get stronger as a Premier League player, that's for sure.''
