Aston Villa has denied rumors that
American owner Randy Lerner will sell the naming rights to its
109-year-old Villa Park stadium.
BBC radio reported that a figure of 120 million pounds (C$253.7
million) to rename the stadium had been dismissed, but that a deal
``could run into tens of millions of pounds.''
Lerner was made Villa chairman on Sept. 19.
``There is no truth to the rumour whatsoever,'' Villa spokesman
Phil Mepham said Friday. ``There are no discussions regarding the
naming rights of the stadium and any future commercial activity will
retain the brand and tradition that has been synonymous with the
club throughout three centuries.''
Only the stadiums of Arsenal, Bolton and Wigan are named after
sponsors in the Premier League.
