Egypt defender Mohammed Abdelwahab died of a heart attack Thursday after collapsing on the field while practising with his club Al Ahly, the team said on its website.
The 23-year-old defender had helped Egypt win its fifth African Cup of Nations title earlier this year.
Abdelwahab was taken to the hospital after he collapsed, the official Egyptian news agency MENA reported.
``In a difficult and saddening news, the well-mannered player Abdelwahab died of a heart attack in the course of team training Thursday morning,'' the club said.
