Former Montreal Impact striker Eduardo Sebrango scored 24 minutes into overtime to lead the Vancouver Whitecaps past the Montreal Impact 2-0 in Game 2 of the USL first division semifinal series
With the win, the Whitecaps advance to the USL first division championship game next Saturday where they will take on the Rochester Raging Rhinos in Rochester, N.Y.
Tony Donatelli added a goal in the final minute as the Whitecaps won the two-game total goals series 2-0 after the teams played to a 0-0 draw Friday in Vancouver.
Sebrango took off his shirt to celebrate his goal, a foul that drew his second yellow card of the match and an ejection, leaving Vancouver to play the final six minutes one man short.
The red card may mean Sebrango misses the championship match, but the Whitecaps said following the game that they will appeal a possible suspension.
David Testo played a long ball over the Montreal defence and Sebrango was ruled onside as he raced in alone on the right side and beat Impact and Canadian national team goalkeeper Greg Sutton.
Donatelli was left alone to score in the 120th minute of play.
The Whitecaps will be seeking their first USL championship against the Rhinos, who last won the title in 2001.
The Raging Rhinos won their semifinal series Sunday on a 1-0 aggregate score after holding the Charleston Battery to a 0-0 draw.
Montreal won the league championship in 1994 and 2004, but lost in the semifinals for a second straight year.
The Whitecaps controlled the ball through most of the two 15-minute overtime period and missed a glittering chance in the 105th minute when Sita-Taty Matondo rang a shot off the crossbar.
Montreal thought it had a goal five minutes into the match when Joel Bailey sent Massimo DiIoia in alone on the right side, but the 19-year-old was in too close and rang a shot off the post.
The Impact forced several corner kicks in the opening half, but couldn't connect, while Vancouver's Jeff Clarke slammed a high shot from the edge of the 18-yard box in the 31st minute that forced Sutton to make a leaping save.
And Sebrango just missed on a header in the 45th.
Neither team threatened seriously in the second half on legs deadened by crossing the continent twice in three days and with the Whitecaps setting an impenetrable box in front of goalkeeper Tony Craig.
Both clubs made changes from the series opener, as Alfredo Valente and Dave Morris started at midfield for the Whitecaps in place of Donatelli and Testo.
Montreal defender Nevio Pizzolitto was ejected from Friday's game for yelling at an official after he had left the game with an injury and was barred from the return match.
DiIoia and Bailey went in at forward, but both were substituted in the second half.
Impact midfielder Patrick Leduc injured a foot in the first half and was replaced by Simon Gatti.
