The Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact each placed four players on the United Soccer Leagues all-league teams named Wednesday.
Vancouver forward Joey Gjertsen and defender Geordie Lyall were named to the all-league first team, along with Montreal goalkeeper Greg Sutton and defender Gabriel Gervais.
Whitecap midfielder Jeff Clark and defender/midfielder Steve Klein were selected to the second team, along with Impact defender Nevio Pizzolitto and midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo.
The selections were made by the league's coaches and general managers.
Gjertsen, 24, was Vancouver's leading scorer, and third overall in the league, with 31 points from 12 goals and seven assists. The second-year player was also named the team MVP and received the inaugural Fan Favourite award.
Lyall, who turns 30 this Friday, played in 20 games this season for Vancouver, accumulating 1,682 minutes while contributing offensively with one goal and one assist.
Montreal's Sutton finished the regular season with the lowest goals-against average in the league (0.500) and allowed just seven goals in 14 games. His nine shutouts was second-best in the league.
Gervais started 23 games for the Impact and became the seventh player in team history to reach the 10,000 minutes played mark.
Rounding out the first all-league team were defenders Mauricio Segovia (Puerto Rico) and Andrew Gregor (Seattle); midfielders Ben Hollingsworth (Charleston), Luke Kreamalmeyer (Portland) and Zinho (Miami FC); and forwards Romario (Miami FC) and Cam Weaver (Seattle).
The Whitecaps open the playoffs Friday at home against Miami. The two-game total-goal series wraps up Sunday in Miami.
The series winner will advance to face the Impact.
