MONTREAL (CP) _ The Montreal Impact's struggles continued as it
fell 1-0 to the Virginia Beach Mariners Friday evening to keep the
race tight atop the United Soccer Leagues Division 1 standings.
Felix Brillant scored the game-winning goal for the Mariners in
the 70th minute to hand Montreal its fifth loss of the season.
Brillant stole the ball from defender Nevio Pizzolitto and went in
alone on Impact goalkeeper Greg Sutton, beating him with a low shot.
``We have to play a lot better if we want to win,'' said head
coach Nick De Santis in a statement. ``They beat us on one play. And
we can't expect to win without scoring goals.''
Montreal is winless in its last four games and has scored only
one goal during that stretch. That goal came in a 1-1 draw with the
last-place Toronto Lynx last Wednesday in Toronto.
The Impact remain in first place in the standings with 44 points,
five points up on the Rochester Raging Rhinos.
Montreal and Virginia Beach will face each other again on Sunday
in Sherbrooke, Que.
