MONTREAL u The Montreal Impact played to a scoreless draw against the Portland Timbers Sunday before a crowd of 9,273 at Centre Claude-Robillard.
Montreal dominated the game outshooting Portland 14-2, but could not capitalize on its sustained pressure. Portland, which tied 2-2 against the Rochester Raging Rhinos Saturday, played a solid game defensively, staving off numerous Impact attacks.
"We started the game well with good scoring chances in the first 15 minutes, but after that we didn't create enough chances,'' said Impact head coach Nick DeSantis.
``Today's game was more difficult for our midfield. There was no space on the field and we should have used the wings more, especially since they defended with 10 players behind the ball."
With the tie, the Impact remains in fourth place in USL Division 1 standings with 18 points, a point behind the Vancouver Whitecaps and two points behind co-leaders Rochester and the Timbers.
The Impact remains unbeaten at home this season (3-0-2) and has outscored its opponents 9-1 in goals.
Defenders Jason DiTullio (5019) and Adam Braz (5027) reached the 5000 minutes played milestone mark with the Impact.
