Impact climb into second place in USL standings with 4 1 win over Silverbacks

MONTREAL (CP) _ The Montreal Impact climbed into second place in the United Soccer League Division 1 standings with a 4-1 win over the Atlanta Silverbacks on Wednesday.

Gabriel Gervais, Daniel Antoniuk, Antonio Ribeiro and Mauricio Salles scored for the Impact (5-1-2).

Atlanta midfielder Scott Buete replied for the Silverbacks (2-4-2), breaking the Impact's shutout streak at 412 minutes.

The crowd of 12,215 fans at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex was the third largest in Impact history for a regular season game.

Montreal opened the scoring at the 20th minute. On a free kick by Ribeiro, midfielder Ze Roberto deflected the ball with his head to Gervais on the left wing. The defender controlled the ball in midair and one-timed a high shot just under the crossbar, beating Silverbacks goaltender Felipe Quintero.

The Impact went up by two just two minutes later. Antoniuk received a centring pass from Jason DiTullio and beat Quintero with a high shot.

The Silverbacks got one back in the 33rd minute. David Hayes' free kick was partially blocked by the wall, but Buete jumped on the rebound and beat Impact goalkeeper Andrew Weber with a low shot.

Ze Roberto restored Montreal's two-goal lead in the 65th minute when streaked down the left wing and centred the ball to Ribeiro, whose low shot beat Quintero to his right.

Montreal capped the scoring in the 90th minute. Salles took a low shot to the near post, from 15 yards out, that caught Quintero by surprise.
