Bulgaria captain Stilian Petrov has quit international soccer after leading his team to victory over Luxembourg.
The Aston Villa midfielder stepped down after Wednesday's 1-0 win in a European Championship qualifier, the official BTA news agency said Thursday.
``This is my final decision but I want to be correct to all media and I will explain my motives on Saturday,'' Petrov said.
Coach Hristo Stoitchkov said he hopes Petrov will change his mind.
``I also have left the national team once and then returned,'' Stoitchkov said.
