FC Brussels suspended one of its own players Monday because of a career-threatening foul on an opponent.
The club banned Ivory Coast forward Sydney Kargbo for the rest of the year after Brussels's 3-1 loss to Kortrijk on Sunday in the Belgian Cup.
Kargbo was sent off after lunging forward at full speed with both feet toward the legs of Jimmy Hempte. The Kortrijk player was able to continue but was replaced in extra time.
``I am happy Hepte survived the horrible attack,'' Brussels chairman Johan Veremeersch told Het Laatste Nieuws. ``I want to use his suspension as an example.
``This should not happen on a soccer pitch,'' added Veremeersch, who called on other clubs to take similar action if their players commit a vicious foul.
