Adelaide United coach John Kosmina will
be banned from the sidelines for four matches following a weekend
incident when he grabbed a Melbourne player by the throat during an
A-League soccer match.
Kosmina was expelled from the technical area _ where the coaching
staff and reserve players sit _ immediately following the incident
with Melbourne Victory captain Kevin Muscat last Sunday.
The Australian soccer league's disciplinary chief has extended
the mandatory one-match ban for the expulsion from the technical
area by a further five matches.
Kosmina will only have to sit out four matches, with the other
two weeks invoked if he is sanctioned for any misconduct for the
remainder of the season, the Australian Associated Press reported
Wednesday.
The Adelaide coach declined comment when he left the Football
Federation Australia's headquarters in Sydney following the hearing.
Kosmina was cited for violent conduct for his reaction after
being knocked off his chair by Muscat late in Adelaide's 1-0 win
over league-leading Melbourne.
Kosmina got up and lunged at Muscat, who had been trying to
retrieve the ball. Muscat was cautioned by the referee at the time,
so was not liable to further sanction.
The Adelaide club said it would consider its own discipline
against Kosmina.
