Lloyd Eisler is asking Skate Canada to reconsider its decision to ban him from coaching for one year.
According to the Toronto Star, Eisler was suspended by Skate Canada because e-mails he allegedly sent to a 15-year-old girl he was coaching in 2005 were deemed inappropriate by Skate Canada.
Skate Canada CEO William Thompson says the organization was advised by legal counsel not to divulge why Eisler was suspended.
The 43-year-old former world pairs champion had until midnight Wednesday night to appeal.
He is living in the Los Angeles region and issued a statement Thursday.
``The situation involving Skate Canada is a situation I regret enormously and take very seriously,'' Eisler said. ``It is however a private issue and as far as I am concerned the matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of all affected parties.
``I believe that I have taken responsibility and addressed any misunderstanding of my actions. While I do not agree with the measures taken by Skate Canada, I have decided not to appeal their ruling. Instead, I have formally asked them to reconsider the severity of the penalty imposed.
``For the sake of all involved, and my family, I do not intend to discuss the situation further.''
The native of Seaforth, Ont., was coaching in Kingston, Ont., before moving to Los Angeles. He teamed with actress Kristy Swanson on the ``Skating With Celebrities'' television series that was taped in the autumn of 2005 and was broadcast last January.
The suspension does not apply outside Skate Canada's jurisdiction so it doesn't keep Eisler from coaching in California.
Eisler and Isabelle Brasseur won the 1993 world pairs title in Prague. They also won Olympic bronze in 1992 and 1994, and they were inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.
