Fullback J.P. Pietersen will debut for South Africa and prop Benn Robinson for Australia when they clash in the last Tri-Nations rugby match at Ellis Park on Saturday.
Pietersen, from the Sharks, will follow national under-21 teammates Pierre Spies and Chiliboy Ralepelle in making their Springboks debut during the tournament. All three were chosen by coach Jake White on Wednesday, with Pietersen and flanker Spies starting.
Winger Bryan Habana was ruled out of the match by concussion from the 21-20 win over New Zealand last weekend. That prompted White to make three changes, all in the backline, from the side which ended the Springboks' five-match losing streak.
Wynand Olivier moves from centre to Habana's left wing, Jaque Fourie shifts from fullback to centre, and a start goes to Pietersen, who has been with the squad since its overseas leg of the Tri-Nations.
``The story I always tell players is when I was in France in 1997 and Justin Swart pulled a hamstring before a French Test, (Percy) Montgomery got in at fullback and the guy went on to play 80 times for South Africa,'' White said. ``There is an opportunity for J.P. to put on the 15 jersey and see how he does.''
White was unperturbed about trying Olivier on the wing.
``It's not about how much he knows, he understands how we play, and has been part of our team playing at centre,'' White said. ``He is comfortable to play anywhere and he was also part of the team that won last week. That is what coaching is all about. You got to do something you have not done before. We know what Breyton Paulse can do, we know what Akona (Ndungane) and Bryan (Habana) can do. We've got an opportunity now to try something else. The more players we can get buying into the way we defend and understanding from outside, the better it is going to be for us going forward.''
White retained his forwards and replacements, and captain John Smit noted the difference in camp after their desperately needed victory.
``The mood is a lot easier to control as a captain,'' Smit said. ``It is not about keeping the guys heads up. It is now about keeping the momentum going. It's a little bit easier with a win behind our back.''
Robinson, at 22, is the youngest member of the Wallabies, and will be the seventh newcomer used by coach John Connolly in nine Tests this season.
The New South Wales loosehead prop was one of two changes to Connolly's side from its last Test more than two weeks ago, a 34-27 loss to New Zealand in Auckland.
Cameron Shepherd, the sevens star who played in Australia's opening three Tests as a substitute, will make his first start on the wing in place of Lote Tuqiri, who was suspended until November for a spear tackle on All Blacks captain Richie McCaw in their last Test.
Western Force utility back Scott Staniforth's selection among the replacements marked his first appearance in a Wallabies jersey since 2002, when he played twice. His only Test before that was a debut in the 1999 World Cup.
Centre Stirling Mortlock and lock Nathan Sharpe will make their 50th appearances for Australia.
Connolly praised South Africa for its surprising win last weekend in Rustenberg.
``The Springboks really tightened up their game against the All Blacks, and would have gained a considerable confidence boost from the win,'' he said.
