Australia scored two late tries
Saturday to beat New Zealand 20-15 in a Tri-Nations rugby league
Test match.
Greg Inglis had two tries for Australia, which moved to 2-0 in
the Tri-Nations. New Zealand, which lost to Australia 30-18 last
weekend, is 0-2.
Inglis and Mark Gasnier scored tries with less than five minutes
left in the match before 30,700 spectators at the Telstra Dome.
Britain opens play in the three-country tournament next Saturday
against New Zealand in Christchurch.
New Zealand went ahead by seven points with eight minutes left
when Stacey Jones kicked a field goal.
But Inglis, who scored his first try just before halftime,
crossed again in the 75th minute when he fended off fullback Brent
Webb on a 60-metre run to the line. Johnathan Thurston's conversion
narrowed the lead to just one point.
Australia completed the comeback when Gasnier finished off a
long-range movement.
The Australians took an unlikely 6-4 lead at halftime but two
second-half tries by centre Iosia Soliola put New Zealand back in
front after Shontayne Hape scored early in the match.
