Matt Kenseth takes third Busch Series pole of the season at Kansas

Matt Kenseth earned his third Busch Series pole of the season Saturday at Kansas Speedway, hours before the start of the Yellow Transportation 300.

Kenseth, a Chase for the Nextel Cup contender making his 17th Busch start of the season, is coming off a second-place finish last week at Dover. He is third in the Chase standings

He earned the pole for Saturday's race when his Ford recorded a quick lap of 173.723 m.p.h. on the 1.5-mile tri-oval. Jeff Burton, who leads the Chase by six points over Jeff Gordon, qualified second with a lap of 172.905 m.p.h. in his Chevrolet.

Denny Hamlin, fourth in the Chase standings, qualified third, followed in the top 10 by Reed Sorenson, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Busch Series points leader Kevin Harvick, David Reutimann, Clint Bowyer and Kasey Kahne.

Busch (10th), Harvick (fifth) and Kahne (ninth) are also in the Chase.

This was the first time in the track's six-year history for Busch drivers to qualify and race on the same day.
