Mark Martin wants to retire

Mark Martin wants to retire. No, wait, that was last year. Martin wants to only race in the truck series and forget about Nextel Cup. Scrap that. Martin wants to race in trucks and run a limited Cup schedule as long as can run in a competitive car.

Close.

Martin, sixth in the standings and making a strong run at his first NASCAR championship, said Friday that's he's not closing the door on driving in 2008. Martin has waffled the last two years on just what exactly he wants to do with the rest of his career. He wanted to retire from a full-time Cup schedule this year before team owner Jack Roush pleaded with him to stay another year.

Martin had said he was only interested in running a limited Cup schedule with the No. 60 Ford in 2007. Now Martin might not be done, after all.

``I go do this truck thing and I get a chance to catch my breath, I would say that there is a good chance that I'd come back full time in '08,'' Martin said. ``I don't know what I want to do and I'll never know until I get a break.''
