Juan Pablo Montoya will make his NASCAR
debut in a Busch Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park, his team
announced Tuesday.
Montoya will drive the No. 42 Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing in
the race on Oct. 28. The decision was made after the Colombian
tested at the Memphis track last week.
That follows a pattern that Ganassi has been using with the
former Formula One driver of testing at a track in preparation of
its upcoming race. Montoya did it at Talladega Superspeedway and
Iowa Speedway before entering the ARCA events at those two tracks.
He was at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Tuesday for the first part
of a two-day Nextel Cup test, fuelling speculation that he'll make
his Cup debut there next month in NASCAR's season finale.
Montoya left his McLaren F1 team in July to make the jump to
NASCAR, where he's reunited with former boss Chip Ganassi. The two
teamed to win the 2000 Indianapolis 500 before Montoya went to F1.
