The Indy Racing League added a road race on the 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to its 2007 schedule.
The July 22 race in Lexington, about 100 kilometres north of Columbus, will be the 10-year-old series' first event in Ohio.
``Mid-Ohio has a deep championship heritage that connects names like Foyt, Andretti, Rahal, Rutherford, Unser and others with the current stars and teams in the IndyCar Series,'' IRL president Brian Barnhart said Thursday.
The track, which is owned by TrueSports, Inc., has a long association with American Honda Motor Co., which has manufacturing facilities in Marysville, Anna and East Liberty, Ohio.
It is the fifth road course event and 15th race overall on the IRL's 2007 calendar. The rest of next year's schedule will be announced later.
The 2007 series opens March 24 at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida.
