Toyota signs France's Montagny as third driver for 2007 F1 season

Franck Montagny has signed with Toyota as third driver for the 2007 Formula One season, the Japanese team said Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Frenchman's move from Super Aguri, another Japanese team, comes as Toyota test drivers Ricardo Zonta and Olivier Panis head to Renault and into retirement, respectively.

``Franck is an experienced driver who knows the tracks and has a strong and successful record of developing Formula 1 cars,'' Toyota team chief Tsutomu Tomita said in a statement.

He will join Toyota in January and will work with Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli.

Montagny was a test driver for Renault from 2003 to 2005 before moving this season to Super Aguri. He has started seven races and had a best finish of 16th place.
