The National Lacrosse League will expand to Boston for the 2008 season, the league announced Wednesday.
The league's 14th franchise will play at TD Banknorth Garden, the home arena of the NHL's Boston Bruins and the NBA's Boston Celtics.
``Our league and its member clubs are excited to be in Boston,'' NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said in a statement. ``We have a lot of NLL fans throughout New England, and they will now have a team of their own.''
Former NLL star Tom Ryan has been named as Boston's coach. Ryan, 36, played nine seasons in the NLL, amassing 202 points (82 goals, 120 assists) in 95 career games.
Tim Armstrong, president of advertising for popular Internet search engine Google, leads the team's ownership group. Armstrong played varsity lacrosse at Connecticut College, where he was a defenceman and team captain.
