Braden Holtby stopped 40 shots and Colton
Gillies scored in the shootout to help the Saskatoon Blades beat the
Kootenay Ice 3-2 in WHL action Wednesday.
Blair Macaulay scored twice for the Blades.
Steve DaSilva and Curtis Billsten had goals for the Ice.
Saskatoon managed just 19 shots on Ice goalie Taylor Dakers, but
Macaulay got Saskatoon rolling early on a two-on-one just 1:21 into
the contest.
Billsten tied the score on a five-on-three early in the second,
but six minutes later Macaulay converted on another goal.
DaSilva capitalized on a Blade turnover with just over six
minutes left, and beat Holtby from 25 feet.
Neither club could score in overtime and Kootenay couldn't score
in the shootout either as Holtby stopped Ben Maxwell, Ryan Russell
and Billsten.
Dakers made his first two saves but Gillies went high glove-side
for the winner.
